Smart Smiles is successful because it removes the obstacles that prevent children from receiving the dental care they need. In addition to a lack of dental insurance or financial resources, many parents and caregivers of Boys & Girls Clubs members are unable to take time off from work or lack transportation to take their children to the dentist.

Smarts Smiles takes all of this away. The program coordinator schedules dental appointments, provides transportation from school or the Club, stays with the children in the waiting area, coordinates follow up care, and keeps parents or caregivers well informed. Club members receive comprehensive oral health services from the same dentist over time. Providing a consistent local dental provider for children is an important aspect of improving their long-term oral health.
